Community & Engagement
Through diverse events and cultural celebrations, we nurture a campus culture of inclusivity and mutual respect—where every student finds their place.
The Athabasca University Students’ Union recognizes that we operate on Treaty 6 territory—the traditional lands of the Nêhiyaw (Plains Cree), Woodland Cree, Beaver Cree Dene, Saulteaux, Niisitapi, Métis, and Nakota Sioux Peoples. We acknowledge the cultural significance of amiskwaciy-wâskahikan (Edmonton’s traditional Cree name, which translates to Beaver Hills House) and celebrate the diverse Indigenous histories, languages, and cultures our members bring from across Canada and around the world.
At AUSU, we are committed to decolonization, reconciliation, and the ongoing journey of unlearning and growth. We endeavor to build genuine, equitable relationships with Indigenous learners at AU as well as with Indigenous members within our organization. We advocate with and for Indigenous learners through meaningful consultation, and we strive to create spaces that are inclusive, respectful, and equitable.
