The third Scientific Decade 2023–2032 of IAHS launches a topic for collaborative efforts in hydrological sciences: HELPING, created through a participatory community process and by applying strategic planning. The third IAHS Scientific Decade is dedicated to local solutions under the global water crisis. The name HELPING, stands for Hydrology Engaging Local People IN one Global world. The XIIth IAHS Scientific Assembly took place 5-10 October 2025 in Roorkee, India. The Scientific Assembly was jointly organised by the Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee, in coordination with the National Institute of Hydrology Roorkee, Irrigation Research Institute Roorkee and CBRI–Central Building Research Institute (CBRI) Roorkee, four leading institutions in the field of water resources in India. The Assembly successfully experimented with an innovative new format which aimed to underline the importance of the discipline of Hydrology and to increase the visibility of the next generation of hydrologists. The IAHS Digital Water Globe (DWG) is currently undergoing a major redevelopment and will be temporarily unavailable from the end of March 2026. This transformation marks the beginning of DWG 2.0 — a new and enhanced platform designed to strengthen how hydrological science is shared, explored, and connected across the world. The next generation of the DWG will build on the original vision while introducing new possibilities for visualising research, connecting scientific knowledge, and supporting the global hydrological community. During this period, the IAHS team is working behind the scenes to develop an improved platform that will better serve the IAHS membership.
